Krystal “Nicole” Shelton PMHNP-BC, FNP is a board-certified Psychiatric-Mental Health and Family Nurse Practitioner with a strong background in holistic, patient-centered care. With years of experience as a registered nurse in diverse clinical settings, Nicole developed a deep understanding of the complex interplay between physical and mental health. Now in advanced practice, she specializes in diagnosing and treating a wide range of mental health conditions including anxiety, depression, mood disorders, substance abuse disorders and trauma-related conditions across the lifespan.
Drawing on transferable skills such as therapeutic communication, crisis intervention, and evidence-based decision-making Nicole is committed to fostering a supportive, nonjudgmental environment where patients feel heard and empowered. Passionate about mental health advocacy she takes a collaborative approach to care, integrating psychotherapy, medication management, lifestyle interventions, and supportive therapy to support long-term wellness and recovery.
• More than five years’ experience in an autonomous private practice under the mentorship of an experienced psychiatrist and neurophysiologist.
• Experience in all ages across the lifespan, seeing children as young as age five.
• Experienced in substance abuse disorder treatment, MATE certified, alcohol use disorder, and opiate use disorder.
• Experienced in lab diagnostics, lab draws, urine/serum drug monitoring, genetic testing, and other required diagnostics.
• Five years’ experience in prescribing/treatment of Treatment Resistant Depression using oral psychotropic medications and SPRAVATO (esketamine) treatment and monitoring.
• DEA certified with safe and responsible prescribing of controlled medications when necessary for five years.
• Experienced in collaborating with interprofessional physicians including primary care, neurologists, psychotherapists, pulmonary/sleep specialists, and cardiologists for optimal patient care and decision making.
• Experience in outpatient supportive therapy, evaluation, creation of care plans, and treatment along with inpatient acute evaluation and treatment.
